Ekobot robot system WEAI combines front-end technology in the areas of AI, robotics, electromobility with traditional knowledge of classical agricultural production. The result is an autonomous system that can replace existing methods and at the same time increase productivity and profitability in a sustainable way. As we see it – the evolution of agricultulture.
We know that Weeding is one of the most time consuming and energy consuming tasks in agriculture today. We also know that although herbicides can be used effectively to control weeds, it is estimated that only a small proportion of herbicides reach their target and the rest of them get lost in the surrounding environment. This causes not only economic losses but also chemical hazards and pollution risks.
At Ekobot, we open up new opportunities to control weeds and reduce herbicide use. With Ekobot’s robotic system for weeding, you as a customer can, compared with traditional methods, reduce your costs and reduce your business’ environmental impact from weeding operations.
Ekobot is the result of the founder Ulf Nordbeck’s thoughts and desire to combine robotics and healthy sustainable food production. Ekobot’s goal is to be able to offer practical and sustainable solutions to agricultural issues while reducing workload with autonomous tools for vegetable farmers.
Ekobot makes it possible for you as a customer to reduce the very variable cost of manual work and reduce the use of herbicides. Manual labor for weed control is often a vegetable grower’s largest cost and often amounts to about 30% of the total expenditure in the cultivation calculation. Reducing the cost of manual labor and herbicides has a major economic impact.
Ekobot’s robotic system leaves soil microbiology undisturbed, unlike conventional methods. Reduced use of herbicides and reduced soil disturbance pave the way for a regenerative approach, leading to healthy crops and higher yields.
Traditional chemicals used by farmers, such as herbicides, degrade soil health and are linked to human and other mammalian health problems. An autonomous mechanical weed management solution reduces or eliminates your herbicide needs.
One of the biggest challenges for sustainable agricultural production is cost-effective weed control. A solution for weed management that does not require herbicides or an increase in manual labor paves the way towards sustainable agriculture with products of high economic value.
The Ekobot robot system WEAI has been tested in cultivation trials in southern Sweden during the 2022 cultivation season. The purpose of the trials has been to demonstrate that the company’s robotic system can contribute to an increase in yield compared to conventional cultivation where chemical pesticides are used to fight weeds. The cultivation trials have been carried out in a Swedish onion farm, where the Hushållningssällskapet and HIR Skåne have been responsible for carrying out and evaluating the cultivation trials. The results from the so-called block trials demonstrate that Ekobot’s robotic system WEAI contributes to an approx. 6% yield increase compared to conventional cultivation technology. The results from the cultivation trials indicate that Swedish onion growers can achieve a considerable increase in productivity by using Ekobot’s robotic system WEAI on a large scale.
The dates for demonstrations during the 2024 season will be communicated closer to this year’s growing season.
